About the Artist

Richard Hessler is a CAF and RCMP veteran with 38 years of service. His Father Raymond Hessler was also a Veteran of over 25 years. He is an accomplished artist and has designed and built a cenotaph in Chestermere Alberta as well as a memorial to the Calgary Tanks (Kings Own Calgary Regiment) that stands on the beach at Dieppe, France.  Richard was a member of the Kings Own before joining the RCMP.

He has taken on a novel project of making gnome birdhouses and part of the proceeds are being donated to Homes For Heroes.

Richard called his project Gnomes for Homes.

He believes deeply in remembrance and supporting veterans. In 2020 Richard was awarded a Commendation by the Minister of Veterans Affairs for making exemplary contributions by generously giving and benefiting Veterans according to the principle that Canada's obligation to all who have served in the cause of peace and freedom must not be forgotten.

The Juno Beach Centre Association has asked Richard to design 3 birdhouses to represent the WW2 Veterans of Juno and they are offered for sale.

The photo shows Richard among a few of the military Gnomes he has produced for Veterans and family.
